A Quick Word About.... The New Catwoman

First Pics of Anne Hathaway As Selina Kyle from "The Dark Knight Rises"

Just a quick post to put my two cents worth in on the subject of the recently revealed set pictures from currently filming "The Dark Knight Rises".
More specifically the images of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle.
AKA - Catwoman.
Here they are (click for big versions)

This is the main image and for all the online bitching I think that it is great.
I've seen comments like "Where are the ears?" and "Why is she riding Batmans bike?"
I absolutely love the costume.  It looks functional and out and out cool to me.  I don't want ears and a cape and I don't want her to look like a dominatrix.  Mostly I don't want to ever, ever, ever not even once ever think of Halle Berry, Julie Newmar or Michelle Pfeiffer when I see her on screen on that glorious day in May next year when this movie finally arrives.
Hathaway looks smoking hot and as if she can seriously kick an ass or two.

Good Golly Miss Molly.
Everything is right with this image.
It has snow, bad guys, assault rifles and a cool bike with Hathaway huckered right down on it.  If my dream to get a job as Kelly Brooks human hand bra doesn't come true I would wish to be that bike.
Hathaway is a talented actress and a very attractive woman and there can surely be no doubt that she has the attributes and the acting chops to pull off a role like this.  Whatever the role may be because we don't know much at all about the plot and her character.  This shot sure makes me want to know though.
It's going to be a long wait for next May.

This is more of the same but there are some extra things to note here.
Looks like a few dead cops and soldiers there on the steps.
Is Selina Kyle to blame?
Is she there to help.
How bad have things got in Gotham?
And where are these steps?
City Hall?
Wayne Manor?
This looks like it has the makings of a crazy good scene and I'm gagging to learn more about it.
I love the way the handle bars on the bike form what appears to be protective armour for the riders arms and hands.

There are other images but for the most part they are very similar to the ones already shown here but from a few seconds further along.
There is a nice shot of the lovely Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate on set looking very purposeful and of course all of those Batman and Bane fighting shots which look like they are in the same scene as the Catwoman on the bike pics.
The Bane shots are still further evidence that "The Dark Knight Rises" is continuing the trend started with "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" in keeping the series as grounded in reality as possible for a genre movie.
The costumes and technology all serve functions that are believable.
And there is one main reason for this and it is the same reason that these shots should not be taken merely on face value....

Christopher Nolan.

This is the man who has not put a foot wrong with the seven movies he has so far directed.
(Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception)
 He shot his first movie "Following" for $6000, delivered an incredibly original thriller in "Memento", dragged the Batman franchise from the Homo-erotic abyss that Joel Schumacher had plunged it into and gave us "Inception" my favourite movie of all time by a wide mark.
And so I think we should just all hold off on the negativity and remember that this series has been and continues to be in the absolute safest pair of hands in the business.
Nolan is an incredible film maker and is right at the top of his game.
"The Dark Knight Rises" will be amazing and ears or not Catwoman will be a great character, written well, designed well and performed well.
It's Christopher Nolan for God's sake.... what else do you need to know?

PS- For what it's worth I believe that the Catwoman goggles will probably have some sort of pop-up ear/ antenna things to keep the Catwoman fans happy.
Just a guess.
